Athens' own Dead Confederate appears in Rolling Stone as one of "Six acts who are defining rock and pop in 2008." Also, here's another DC-related video, which has the band sitting down with Rainn Wilson (aka Dwight from NBC's The Office) at this year's Sasquatch! Festival. Dead Confederate will release their album Wrecking Ball on September 16th.
Athens Soundies has been staying busy - with new videos from Dancer Vs. Politician and Quiet Hooves. Here's D Vs. P performing in a river bed:

(NOT THAT) It can't happen... just that it hasn't happened yet.
The Whigs made a readers-choice list in NME magazine rating the Most Exciting American bands. ATLiens Snowden made the list as well. The band is touring currently but will be returning to Athens on September 10th to play the 40 Watt along with Tokyo Police Club.
Former Athens musician Will Rutland passed this info along.
"I've started an artist website called Ephemera in an effort to give fledgling/unheralded artists a platform from which to present their wares to the world. We take all media (music, visual art, poetry, prose . . . we even had present wrapping featured in our last gloss), without exception or reservation. "

Gnarls in charge
Also - thanks to Brian Burton aka Dangermouse for signing a copy of "St. Elsewhere" for our upcoming auction (OCT. 4).
We've alerted you to this in the past but I'm going to do it again because this video and song combination is very strong. Here's the latest clip from Ishues: Gangsta Slave.

There's a sound you can hear on the long side of being alone...
Shawn Andrews, offensive lineman for the Philadelphia Eagles, is being very upfront about why he's not in training camp this year: he's suffering from depression. Read about it here.
Nuçi’s Space isn't the only rehearsal space in the world. Vice TV highlights some of the practice spots for rock's best non-Athens bands (there are bands that are NOT from Athens?) ATL's The Coathangers make an appearance.
Next week during PopFest, be sure to check out GigWorn, a new clothing store in downtown Athens (across from Little Kings). During the opening weekend (AUG. 15th & 16th), if you bring in one of the store's postcards you'll recieve an extra 20% off any purchase.
You can find a postcard at Nuçi’s Space or any coffee shop/restaurant downtown.
