Young Rockers: 2 shows this weekend!

Nuçi’s Space needs your help spreading the word about a really cool weekend of shows coming up. Both are geared towards the under-21 crowd featuring some of the best bands in town. Plus, Nuçi’s Space is the kind of safe, teenage-friendly spot that's perfect for these shows. Both concerts start early and the entrance fee is a suggested $5 donation.

FRIDAY, DECEMBER 12th
DAY OF THE HORSE
Tonight's show is in honor of National Day of the Horse (which is the subsequent Saturday). The concept is the work of Cedar Shoals High School student and Nuçi’s Space intern Abby Willis. A very little-known holiday with a goofy premise, Willis decided Day of the Horse easily lent itself to a concert featuring the myriad of horse bands in Athens.
Local bands Gift Horse, Sleepy Horses, and Horse Eggs (singer Julian Bozeman from Quiet Hooves) will be playing. All proceeds will go towards funding the Nuçi's Space counseling assistance program.

SATURDAY, DECEMBER 13th
UNDERAGE MUSIC
Tonight's theme is Underage Music. You must be under 21 or accompanied by someone under 21 to be allowed in.There will be an art exhibit starting at 5:30 pm - the music starts at 8 pm.

I am THRILLED to announce the bill for our annual.
NUCIS SPACE BENEFIT.
This year, DRIVE-BY TRUCKERS will be joined on the benefit by THE WHIGS and a special performance from SOUTH SAN GABRIEL

THE WHIGS are one of the best up and coming bands in the nation and their hometown Athens GA shows are becoming more and more legendary and less frequent.
They will have completed the touring behind their fantastic 2008 release MISSION CONTROL so this may be the last chance to see them for a while.

SOUTH SAN GABRIEL is the alter-ego project from Denton TX's immortal CENTRO-MATIC.
Whereas Centro-matic is full-on Rock, SSG is a quieter and more lush sound.
Their new album, the double disc DUAL HAWKS (featuring one disc each from CENTRO-MATIC and SOUTH SAN GABRIEL) is flat out one of the most beautiful and best albums of the year.

DRIVE-BY TRUCKERS are playing a handful of dates in early 09 as part of THE RIGHTEOUS PATH TOUR 2009 but for a while will be mostly focusing on beginning our next album so the dates will be much less frequent than last year.
We have been proud supporters of NUCI'S SPACE since it opened in 1999.
We have seen first hand the amazing work they do and we highly urge you to check out what they do and how they do it.
It truly is a unique and remarkable program on every level.

THE NUCI'S SPACE BENEFIT 2009 will take place Thursday January 15th at The Fabulous 40 Watt Club in Athens GA.
That weekend we will be playing our annual 40 WATT CLUB HOMECOMING WEEKEND SHOW January 16 -17 with special guests CENTRO-MATIC.

There will also be some other special announcements concerning the Nuci's Space Benefit and the related Nuci's Space Art Auction which will also be taking place that week, so stay tuned.
