Researchers at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center have released the results of a study where doctors prescribed "doses" of exercise to patients who were not responding to (anti-depressant) medication alone.

“Evidence is accumulating that exercise may be an effective treatment for depressed patients who are receptive to exercise as a possible treatment and who are able to safely engage in exercise,” said James A. Blumenthal, a professor of psychology and neuroscience at Duke University.

Band Back Together - "Everybody needs a place where they can let it all out" - that's the description the website gives and its a good one. The posts are all split up according to subject matter but it really is a place for people to get their worries and fears off their chest. I've only looked around on the site a few times but so far I really, really like it.

Post Secret Community - an online chat page that came out of the followers of the fantastic POST SECRET books. Similar to Band Back Together, the community is a place to vent and to read about what others are going through. It's more mental health specific than BBT.

New details in death of Dave Duerson

Dave Duerson's wife and family are learning more about what the root cause of his suicide The former Chicago Bear committed suicide in February, leaving behind directions that his brain be donated to Boston University for research purposes. USAToday just released new details on Duerson's death.

Doctors believe that Duerson suffered from Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy (CTE), a brain disorder that causes depression and impaired reasoning. His CTE was most likely caused by repeated concussions during his football career.

"The first thing (doctors) noticed was how small his brain was. Dave was a big man.
His brain had started dying 10 years ago."

Fighting Colorado's Suicides

A few days ago we were looking at the stigma-busting that sports columnist Woody Paige was doing in Denver by opening up about his own struggles with depression... here's a TV news report from Colorado looking at what two local charities are doing to fight suicide in their state.

The two groups are The Yellow Ribbon Suicide Prevention Program (founded by the parents of Mike Emme, who died at 17 years of age) and the Carson J Spencer Foundation (founded in memory of Carson J. Spencer, who took his life after a difficult battle with bipolar disorder in December of 2004).

It's called MoodTracker and it was designed by a man whose wife was diagnosed with bi-polar disorder as a way to track her moods, medication and sleep. The program does just that, with the user filling his or her info on a daily basis - what you get back is a look at your mood vs. the amount of sleep you've had or what medication you're on. Just looking through the site, it's also a way to reflect on how one's mood changes during the year and along with the seasons, weather and other factors. If we hear any feedback from people I'll be sure to pass it along.

I was pleasantly surprised to see that Denver Post columnist and ESPN agitator Woody Paige was the recipient of the Public Education Award at the 2011 Lifesavers Dinner last week. The dinner is a fundraiser and award ceremony for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention and was hosted by Joan and Melissa Rivers (Joan's husband Edgar committed suicide in 1987).
Paige was recognized for an eye-opening column he wrote in 2010 that included the admission that he had been suicidal in the past. The story is a must-read - Paige profiles the suicide of Denver Broncos wide receiver Kenny McKinley. McKinley was a star player from Cobb County (GA) before playing college football at the University of South Carolina.

I know an older man who eight years ago this month was committed to committing suicide.
Me.
The last, desperate, despondent, despicable act was all planned out.  The Broncos were playing on Sunday, Sept. 15, 2002, against the 49ers. I  would fly into San Francisco the day before, drive up to Napa Valley,  enjoy a bottle of expensive red wine and check into a nice inn. The next  morning I would head over to the coast and swim out in the Pacific  Ocean far enough that I couldn't make it back to the beach.
My death would be termed an "accidental drowning," and my family and few friends would be horrified, but spared the humiliation.

The idea for a musical instrument-inspired art show was first revealed nearly 4 years ago when The Gretsch Foundation awarded Nuçi’s Space 4 small acoustic guitars, 3 full-size acoustic guitars and a beginner-level drumset as part of a fundraising program called Guitar Art. The Gretsch Company, based in Savannah, GA, has been producing world-class drums and guitars since 1883. While maintaining an emphasis on by hand craftsmanship and its dedication to quality, Gretsch has kept its philanthropic commitment to the community as well. In 2002 the Gretsch Company started donating instruments to schools and organizations to help with their fundraising needs. Through this program, non-proﬁt organizations receive used guitars and with the help of local artists turn them into beautiful and unique pieces that are then friendly, sold at auction.

Following several obstacles and unfortunate twists-of-fate, the long awaited Guitar Art Show and Auction will be held on Thursday, April 14th in the Rialto Room at the award-winning Hotel Indigo in downtown Athens. The event promises to be an unforgettable night, filled with great music and art. Hotel Indigo is offering special discounted room rates for attendees interested in staying the night and soaking up the hotel’s world-class accommodations. “Although it has taken us several years to get this show together, the collection of instruments and music memorabilia available for auction is very impressive,” says Executive Director, Bob Sleppy. In addition to the instruments donated by Gretsch, the auction will include other instruments donated by local musicians.

Music memorabilia will include items autographed by the B-52’s, Kenny Rogers, Drive-By Truckers, Colt Ford, Green Day, R.E.M., Ben Mize (formerly of Counting Crows), Kris Kristofferson and Oscar winner, Jeff Bridges (from the film “Crazy Heart”). A highlight of the show will include a custom acoustic guitar, built by Athens-based luthier, Scott Baxendale and signed by Drive-By Truckers.

WHAT: Nuçi’s Space is inviting the media to attend and cover the inaugural Athens Business Rocks, a fundraising event for Nuçi’s Space that will challenge musicians from different local businesses against each other – from the stage of the Fabulous 40 Watt Club in downtown Athens.

It’s been said that “you can’t swing a guitar around your neck in Athens without hitting a musician.” Not only was this statement referring to the performing musicians that most people associate with the world-famous downtown music scene, but to the plethora of musicians that masquerade as “upstanding, straight-laced” business people during the day as well.

Because of the confines of their day-time jobs, many of these hidden rock stars don’t get the opportunity to let their hair down (if they have any to let down) and perform on stage for a throng of adoring fans. Athens Business Rocks hopes to create an opportunity for these hidden rock stars to reveal themselves – even if it’s for just a night or two.

After the opening round of music in early February (2,3,4), the Finals will take place Saturday, February 19th, 2011 – and all rounds will be held at the legendary 40 Watt Club in downtown Athens.

The deadline to register a band online is January 17, 2011 – the following day all the bands and performance schedules will be announced on the website. More information, including all details, is available at www.athensbusinessrocks.com.

The 40 Watt Club (Downtown Athens, GA)

WHO: The 2011 event is limited to 26 bands and we expect these slots to fill up quickly. Bands can be created by employees from local businesses, University departments and civic clubs. Each band will be required to prepare 15 minutes (approximately 3 songs) of cover songs. Registered bands will also receive free and discounted rehearsal time at Nuçi’s Space to prepare for their “big night.” (Details online)

Bands will be judged (criteria online) by a panel of celebrity judges that include Patterson Hood (Drive-By Truckers), Lisa Love (Georgia Music Hall of Fame) and several other “big wigs” to be announced soon.

WHY: The goal of Athens Business Rocks is two-fold; 1) help raise contributions for a great local nonprofit that focuses on providing support and resources for the music and creative community 2) engage and promote the business community while sharing a great night of music and fun in historic downtown Athens.

Proceeds will benefit Nuçi’s Space, a support and resource center for musicians in Athens, GA. The mission of Nuçi’s Space is to prevent suicide by providing obstacle-free treatment for musicians suffering from depression and other such disorders, as well as to assist in the emotional, physical and professional well-being of musicians. To accomplish this mission, Nuçi’s Space actively participates in treatment, educates to destigmatize mental illness and advocates for sufferers.

Blackboards & Smokebombs: The work of Lance Bangs, Dan Donahue and Chris Bilheimer.

In 1994, three friends moved into the former health and music classrooms of the old Athens High School gymnasium on Meigs Street. Their landlord and mentor was James Herbert, Professor Emeritus of Drawing and Painting at the University of Georgia, under whom each of them had studied experimental filmmaking. They were Lance Bangs, Chris Bilheimer and Dan Donahue, and during their five years as roommates they created numerous projects together. Collaborating on one level or another amid the old blackboards that lined the walls, they learned new skills from each other in the fields of photography, filmmaking, and design.

Over the past 15 years, their visual work has spread from that Athens school building and been seen by millions of people worldwide. Blackboards and Smokebombs seeks to present a broad range of their work, assembled together for their first multimedia group show.

Kris Langley: Television Buzz

Kris Langley, frontman for local band Television Buzz, died on January 30th - leaving behind a wife and child and many, many friends in the Athens music scene. Langley suffered from leukemia and was put into the ICU in mid-January after a viral infection in his lungs.
Kris was really funny and very talented - his band practiced here regularly for years and years and played multiple benefit shows for our organization. (One of my favorite Television Buzz memories is them giving away Taco Stand burritos to the first 50 people who came to one of their shows at Tasty World).
Our thoughts are with his family and friends, his wife and his young son Will.
A memorial service for Kris will be held on Saturday, Feb. 13 at the Redeemer Presbyterian Church (corner of Pulaski and Broad) at 3 p.m.

An Announcement from Mama's Boy restaurant:

It is with the heaviest of hearts that we announce the passing of a very dear friend and late Athens resident. Reese Fitts passed away in his sleep on Wednesday, January 13, 2010 at the young age of 23.

Many of you will remember Reese’s charming smile and sharp wit. He made a lasting impression on everyone he met. He was an avid reader with a tremendous desire to acquire knowledge. Reese moved to Athens in 2005 with an academic scholarship to attend the University of Georgia.

While in Athens, he became involved with Chi Phi fraternity, volunteered for Nuci’s Space, supported the local music scene, and helped open and work in the kitchen at Mama’s Boy restaurant for the first three years of its conception. Reese’s contribution to Mama’s Boy is absolutely immeasurable. As his nickname the “hurricane” would suggest, he truly was a force of nature. He genuinely took an interest in the lives of everyone around him and we are all blessed to have been touched by him. He touched by more people than he would have ever imagined. All of those who knew and loved Reese and those who simply want to support Nuci’s Space are invited to eat dinner at Mama’s Boy on Saturday February 6.

The evening special will be one of Reese’s favorites, a low country boil. A memorial party to celebrate Reese’s life will follow dinner from 9 pm– 11 pm
The party will include drink specials, music and memories. A percent of the evening sales will be donated to Nuci’s Space in Reese’s name.

Ethan Kaplan, head honcho over at the R.E.M. fansite Murmurs has put together a donation drive that benefits Nuçi's Space in honor of Michael Stipe's 50th Birthday (today, Jan. 4th).

Here's a snippet of Ethan's post:

Michael Stipe, lead singer for R.E.M., friend of many, artist of conceptual metal pieces turns 50 today. Happy birthday Michael from all of us at Murmurs!

One of the artists Michael has mentored, been a fan of and championed was the late Vic Chesnutt. Michael discovered Vic, produced two of his records and never shied away from evangelizing his work.

Tragically, Vic died last week.

In the spirit of the kind of person Michael is, and the message of selflessness he has always espoused, for Michael's birthday I'm asking for the Murmurs community to donate to a charity who's mission is to help people like Vic: Nuçi's Space. We at Nuçi’s Space are extremely saddened by the death of our friend Jerry Fuchs.
Our hearts are filled with sorrow for his parents, his family and his friends.
Not only was Jerry an extremely talented drummer, he was a very close friend of Nuçi’s.
We can only hope that he and Nuçi together again are rocking the heavens with their music.

Nuçi’s Space founder Linda Phillips was given an honorary key to the city on Saturday (October 24^th) from Athens mayor Heidi Davison. Phillips founded the non-profit support center for musicians after losing her son Nuçi to suicide in 1996.

Phillips received the key in front of a packed house at the Space’s 9^th Anniversary Celebration. The crowd included local musicians, family members, friends as well as patients who had benefited from Phillips’ service to the Athens community. The building on Oconee Street near downtown opened its doors in the fall of 2000 and since then has helped over 650 musicians obtain professional counseling for depression.

Mayor Davison commended Phillips for her ability to turn the tragedy of losing her son into the creation of Nuçi’s Space. After 10 years of tireless work, Phillips is retiring from her role as counseling advocate and president of the Nuçi’s Space Board of Directors.

In her time as mayor of Athens, Davison has presented keys to exiting commanders of the U.S. Navy Supply Corps School, AthFest founder Jared Bailey and the filmmaking team behind “Darius Goes West.”

Nuçi’s Space is a non-profit health and music resource center in Athens, GA. The aim of the organization is to prevent suicide by providing obstacle free treatment for musicians suffering from depression and other such disorders as well as to assist in the emotional, physical and professional well-being of musicians.

Pitchfork Media gave Circulatory System's long-awaited record Signal Morning a great review. We were lucky enough to host the band during this year's AthFest and they were INCREDIBLE.

This is bizarre news from downtown Athens. GigWorn is a super-cool clothing shop a couple doors down from Cine and The National. The store is run by Sheridan Soileau, a Nuçi's Space volunteer and dedicated supporter of the Athens music scene.
For some strange reason, GigWorn has been broken into TWICE in the past week. Sheridan is offering a reward to anyone with ANY information that leads to an arrest and conviction of the perpetrator.

Local trio Romanenko has had a HUGE wrench thrown into their plans to release their first full length album. One of the bandmembers had her house broken into and money the band had saved to be used to press the album and pay the studio for recording wasa stolen.

Nuçi’s Space was honored to be a part of the Randy Bewley Birthday Party held a few weekends ago at the 40 Watt. In honor of Randy's death, the concert was put together to give his friends and fans a chance to come together and celebrate his life. The bands Tunabunny, Everybody Everybody and Gold Party played - and before Flash To Bang Time closed out the night there was a special showing of some never-before-seen Pylon tour footage.

Nuçi’s Space volunteers were on hand selling a special edition Randy Bewley T-shirt designed by Pylon bassist Michael Lachowski. Proceeds from the sales of the shirt benefit our nonprofit mission.

Halfway through the show, members of Pylon - Lachowski, Vanessa Hay and Curtis Crowe - took to the stage to thank the attendees and to recognize the impact Bewley had on their lives, as well as the Athens music scene.

Mule Fest to benefit Nuçi's Space

Mule Train Records, Green Room International Productions, Green Room Studios, and First American Bank & Trust are proud to collaborate on the 2nd Annual Mule Fest to be held the weekend of August 21, 22 and 23.

Mule Fest is a three-day, two-venue festival consisting of art, music, comedy, vending and childrens’ activities held in the eclectic city of Athens, Ga every August. With a focus on local talent, acoustic performances and jam bands, the musical focus centers around styles such as alternative, Americana, blues, funk, jazz and soul. The two venues are the Mule Train Records’ Green Room and an outdoor main stage in the First American Bank & Trust parking lot located at 520 North Thomas Street.

A portion of ticket sales and Mule Fest merchandise sales will go towards Nuçi’s Space, a nonprofit health and music resource center here in Athens, Ga.

Camp Amped 2009

The first session of Camp Amped 2009 was a huge success. 20 local kids between the ages of 11-17 met here during the week from June 8-19th to learn from some of Athens’ best musicians. The campers took part in workshops on band relationships, songwriting and specialized instrument instruction. They formed bands and rehearsed, then recorded tracks at some of Athens’ best studios (mp3’s below).

Last Saturday, June 20th, the bands performed to a PACKED house at Nuçi’s Space. The audio was recorded by Sloan Simpson and video work was done by Jonathon Brill - those will be made available as soon as possible.

During the week, lunch was provided by a variety of very generous local restaurants, including:
Barberitos Eastside, Chick-Fil-A, Dondero’s Kitchen, Five Star Day Café, The Grit, Jersey Mike’s, Mama’s Boy, Marti’s At Midday, Mellow Mushroom, Taco Stand.

Instructors for the first session were Claire Campbell, Joel Byron, Thayer Sarrano, Betsy Franck, Philip Mayer and Seth Hendershot. The lead instructor is Dan Nettles and the camp facilitator (and instructor) is Carl Lindberg. The camp director is Laura Ford.

We open the Athens Brass Choir's sixth season with two major works of 19th Century Russian music. Both "Marche Slave" and "Pictures At An Exhibition" are very familiar to modern audiences; however, the story behind the works may not be. Pictures, in particular, has a very personal meaning for the group; Mussorgsky composed it to honor a close artist friend, Viktor Hartmann, who died of an aneurysm at the age of 39. The music depicts a posthumous exhibition of Hartmann's works, connecting movements representing several diverse paintings, sketches, and watercolors with a "Promenade" theme (representing the walk between paintings, when the old images are still with you, while the new ones approach). The observer is suddenly presented with a stark reminder of mortality at "The Catacombs", feels anger and denial through "The Hut on Hen's Legs (Baba Yaga)", and ultimately reaches acceptance with the grandeur of "The Great Gate of Kiev".

With this work, we honor our own artist and dear friend, Randy Bewley, who died earlier this year. This is a free concert, but donations are encouraged; all money collected will go to benefit Nuçi’s Space, a non-profit health and music resource center in Athens, GA, dedicated to providing low-cost rehearsal opportunities for young musicians, helping prevent suicide by treating musicians for depression and other disorders, and otherwise assisting the emotional, physical and professional well-being of musicians.

UGA honors classmate with Nuçi's Space partnership

In the fall of 2007 Cayle Bywater, UGA Gwinnett grad student, became a volunteer at Nuçi’s Space, a musicians’ resource & support center in Athens. Bywater began working on a large-scale database project for Nuçi’s Space. The system would significantly raise the efficiency and range of our rehearsal room reservation system – something we could not afford to do unless the system overhaul was approached as a volunteer project.

Tragically, on January 11, 2008 the body of Cayle Bywater was recovered from the pond at Memorial Park in Athens. Bywater had been missing for almost two weeks. Her disappearance and the ensuing hunt consumed the Athens community with search parties and missing posters.

After Cayle’s death, Nuçi’s Space was contacted by Beth Daniell, a friend and classmate of Bywater’s in the UGA Gwinnett Master's of Internet Technology program. Daniell wanted to continue the project as a dedication to Cayle, and her classmates and professors soon joined in to help. Over the past year, the system has become the group’s final class project. Starting in May, the database will become a central part of the day-to-day business at Nuçi’s Space.

The objective of the project was to increase the efficiency of the current rehearsal room rental database used by Nuçi’s Space. The new system, called The Cayle Project, is an internal web-application that will assist staff members with practice room and equipment reservations, as well as with vital customer reporting data.

Nuçi’s Space is a non-profit health and music resource center in Athens, GA. The aim of the organization is to prevent suicide by providing obstacle free treatment for musicians suffering from depression and other such disorders as well as to assist in the emotional, physical and professional well-being of musicians.

40 Watt/Terrapin Fundraiser Announced!

The First Annual Athens’ Restaurant and Bar
Battle of the Bands

Athens’ restaurants and bars are being challenged to put together bands using their staffs and go head to head. It’s no secret that many Athens’ musicians support themselves working for local area restaurants and bars. Athens’ restaurants will use their musically inclined staffs to compete for a cherished prize while also raising money for two great local charities. The winning band will be awarded a glass pitcher decorated by a local artist.

Restaurants/Bars can enter through Rick Poss at the 40 Watt Club. The entrance fee is thirty dollars and only the first ten bands will be accepted. Each band gets three songs or fifteen minutes to sway the judging panel and all songs played must be covers.

Rules & Guidelines:
* The band must consist of current employees of the establishment (no ringers please!)

* The band can’t be an already established, performing band.

* Each set must be no longer than 15 minutes and must be covers. Tributes are welcome.

*Each act will be judged by a panel of three judges on originality, sound and performance as well as an audience reaction vote.

*A backline will be provided by the club to keep things going in a timely manner.

The band entry fee is $40, which goes to cover the cost of production.

The entry deadline is Friday, April 17th.

Only the first 10 bands to enter will be accepted.

Underage Music Night: This is all ages show featuring performers of all ages. Connelly Crowe Band is a teen outfit, with members ranging in age from about 16 to 17. Lead singer Connelly has an amazingly refined voice for age, with a strong, crystal clear. The group's breezy but soulful acoustic pop is inspired by artists like Sheryl Crow, John Mayer and Tom Petty. Also on the bill tonight are local powerpop bands Doctor Squid and The Warm Fuzzies who are both fueled by a big dose of Weezer. (Nuçi's Space, Saturday 21)

Randy Bewley

Randy Bewley died on Wednesday night February 25, 2009 in Athens, Georgia.
He was 53 years old - an artist, husband, father and guitar player. For those who don't know, his band Pylon is one of THE reasons that people all over the world even know about the Athens Music Scene.

Pylon was a group of four college art students who played an energetic brand of dance-punk that immediatley engaged loyal followers in Athens and then later, all over the US.
Randy decided to stop playing music in the early 80's in order to start a family. The band would later re-form to tour and play shows for a new generation of fans. Recently, in addition to Pylon, Randy played with local bands Supercluster and Sound Houses.

Nuçi's Space was lucky enough to see Randy on a regular basis, when Pylon or Supercluster was rehearsing here. A few years ago Pylon filmed an episode of the popular kid's show Pancake Mountain here - and they also played our 5th Anniversary celebration here in 2005.

Randy Bewley will be missed greatly, but his influence on our town and its music will most certainly live on.

Young Rockers: 2 shows this weekend!

Nuçi’s Space needs your help spreading the word about a really cool weekend of shows coming up. Both are geared towards the under-21 crowd featuring some of the best bands in town. Plus, Nuçi’s Space is the kind of safe, teenage-friendly spot that's perfect for these shows. Both concerts start early and the entrance fee is a suggested $5 donation.

FRIDAY, DECEMBER 12th
DAY OF THE HORSE
Tonight's show is in honor of National Day of the Horse (which is the subsequent Saturday). The concept is the work of Cedar Shoals High School student and Nuçi’s Space intern Abby Willis. A very little-known holiday with a goofy premise, Willis decided Day of the Horse easily lent itself to a concert featuring the myriad of horse bands in Athens.
Local bands Gift Horse, Sleepy Horses, and Horse Eggs (singer Julian Bozeman from Quiet Hooves) will be playing. All proceeds will go towards funding the Nuçi's Space counseling assistance program.

Tonight's theme is Underage Music. You must be under 21 or accompanied by someone under 21 to be allowed in.There will be an art exhibit starting at 5:30 pm - the music starts at 8 pm.

This year, DRIVE-BY TRUCKERS will be joined on the benefit by THE WHIGS and a special performance from SOUTH SAN GABRIEL

THE WHIGS are one of the best up and coming bands in the nation and their hometown Athens GA shows are becoming more and more legendary and less frequent.
They will have completed the touring behind their fantastic 2008 release MISSION CONTROL so this may be the last chance to see them for a while.

SOUTH SAN GABRIEL is the alter-ego project from Denton TX's immortal CENTRO-MATIC.
Whereas Centro-matic is full-on Rock, SSG is a quieter and more lush sound.
Their new album, the double disc DUAL HAWKS (featuring one disc each from CENTRO-MATIC and SOUTH SAN GABRIEL) is flat out one of the most beautiful and best albums of the year.

DRIVE-BY TRUCKERS are playing a handful of dates in early 09 as part of THE RIGHTEOUS PATH TOUR 2009 but for a while will be mostly focusing on beginning our next album so the dates will be much less frequent than last year.
We have been proud supporters of NUCI'S SPACE since it opened in 1999.
We have seen first hand the amazing work they do and we highly urge you to check out what they do and how they do it.
It truly is a unique and remarkable program on every level.

Legendary Music Artists Team Up With Record Label Executives To Judge ISC

October 18, 2008 -- The International Songwriting Competition (ISC) has extended its submission deadline until December 1, 2008. ISC will continue to take online, mail-in, and MySpace entries until this date.
All entries must be postmarked or uploaded online on or before December 1, 2008. So, if you have not already entered ISC and wish to do so, you still have time to enter.

Digital Insight is hosting our 5th Annual Chili Cook-Off benefiting Athens' own Nuçi’s Space and is asking local businesses for their participation in making this event successful.

Let me start by telling you who we are. Digital Insight is a division of Intuit, the company responsible for Turbo Tax, Quicken, and QuickBooks. We are the industry leader for providing online banking services to community banks and credit unions like Johns Hopkins Federal Credit Union, Delta Federal Credit Union and our local First American Bank and Trust. While our company has over 8,000 employees and has locations all across the world, we have a local office atop the Bank of America Building in downtown Athens.

In past years Digital Insight has committed to raise money for Charity organizations including the American Cancer Society, Habitat for Humanity, the American Red Cross and the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. This year we have decided to raise money for Nuçi’s Space, a non-profit health and music resource center here in Athens, GA.

Wrecking Ball set to impact

Athens' own Dead Confederate appears in Rolling Stone as one of "Six acts who are defining rock and pop in 2008." Also, here's another DC-related video, which has the band sitting down with Rainn Wilson (aka Dwight from NBC's The Office) at this year's Sasquatch! Festival. Dead Confederate will release their album Wrecking Ball on September 16th.

The Whigs made a readers-choice list in NME magazine rating the Most Exciting American bands. ATLiens Snowden made the list as well.

The band is touring currently but will be returning to Athens on September 10th to play the 40 Watt along with Tokyo Police Club.
