  • - Open to all young musicians ages 11-17, regardless of past Camp Amped participation

Focus Group: Healthcare for Musicians

Musicians: We need your input!
*Dinner Provided*
 *1 Hour Discussion*

Wednesday February 27th – 6 PM at Nuҫi’s Space
We need people to be a part of our round-table discussion concerning how you, as a musician, navigate our healthcare system. What do you need more of? What keeps you from finding treatment? This information is very valuable to us – our goal is to help get rid of some of these obstacles (financial and otherwise). But first we need to make a case for WHAT we need (more clinics? specific types of doctors?).

If you can help us out please RSVP by sending us a message on Facebook, emailing us (space@nuci.org) or calling between the hours of 10-6 pm (706.227.1515) – ask for Will.

THANK YOU!!

Nuçi's Space Founder Responds to Newtown Tragedy

Sandy Hook.
Sorry.
So sorry for your loss.
Twenty little children.
Six adults.
Slaughtered.
Erased.
Gone.
No more hugs.
No more kisses.
No more happy.
No more.

Security breached.
Worlds ripped apart.
Left behind a community floundering.
Bewildered by senselessness and loss.
Powerless in the face of raw grief.
School days, school days, no more golden rule days.

Today’s headline:
Newtown, Connecticut.

Tomorrow’s footnote:
Broken hearts heal.
Parents send their children off to school
With a hug, a kiss, I love you.
See you soon…
School days, school days, dear old golden rule days.

There has been a myriad of reactions to the tragedy at Sandy Hook and how to prevent such tragedies from reoccurring. If we allow ourselves to think that the solution to the problem is making our schools safer, we are only continuing to leave our heads buried deep in a hole. It is human nature to shy away from that which makes us uncomfortable, those things that require soul searching and hard work. But the unthinkable has come to pass. Our babies, our future have been ripped from our arms. We must face the harsh reality.
Make no mistake; while those broken hearts at Sandy Hook start to heal, broken minds continue to fester. It is a fact that most mentally ill people are not violent but it is also a fact that an ignored unstable mind can lash out in unthinkable ways. We must learn to identify such individuals. Once identified, these individuals must be treated and monitored for their sake and for the sake of us all. And please note well. This problem is too big for a parent alone. This problem requires the combined forces of our healthcare community, law enforcement, family and friends.
As a civilized, caring society, we can flourish only if we are healthy - healthy in mind and in body. We ask that you remember the little children of Sandy Hook and the adults charged with their care. They paid the ultimate price for our failure as a society to face our demons.
Get in touch with the President, your senators, your representatives. Demand change!

-Linda Phillips, Nuçi's Space founder and Nuçi's mom.
